While closing the coop every night, I count all the babies to make sure that everyone is accounted for. Well, when doing the rounds, I found that our rhode island red, Lois, is missing. I have searched our land and I cant find her. This is not like her. She is always one of the first in the coop. I hope she turns up...

She might be out on a nest. The first time my Mama Hen disappeared I thought she was consumed by a coyote only to have her show herself several days later and lead me to where she was nesting. When a hen goes broody she will get off the nest for about 15 minutes a day. Usually noonish. The last week she does not get off the nest at all. I leave a water bowl by the nest with a little feed the last week. It is 21 days for chicks to hatch. I do hope that she is on a nest somewhere.
Maybe she was out partying with Ingrid. That would explain a lot...
This morning Mike found a nest with 3 brown eggs in it. But no sign of Lois. I hope she shows.. I sure hope she shows.
a missing hen means only 2 things
she's broody and sitting
or shes been taken......I know the latter only too well.....

Don't know why I find you 'chicken people' so interesting. It must be your persistence.
Besides, if John is here, then it must be OK.
Keep your fingers crossed...I'll keep my paws crossed for you...;-)
